Manchester Metropolitan tops People & Planet Green League 2013

SML-GL-MMU-EnvtpageManchester Metropolitan University is the greenest university in the UK, according to the People and Planet Green League 2013 published in The Guardian today.

 

The ranking of the Green League 2013 was based on the environmental and ethical performance of 143 universities, allocating them scores for their policy and performance.

 

The top 20 universities are:

1 Manchester Metropolitan University

2 University of Plymouth

3 University of Gloucestershire

4 University of Worcester

5 University of Brighton

6 University of Greenwich

7 Nottingham Trent University

7 Oxford Brookes University

9 University of Bradford

9 University of Central Lancashire

11 Bournemouth University

12 Aston University

13 University of Exeter

14 Sheffield Hallam University

15 Newcastle University

16 Staffordshire University

17 Canterbury Christ Church University

17 University of Reading

17 University of Salford

20 Bangor University

20 University of Bedfordshire

 

The top five leaps up the table are:

  1. University of Sheffield (up 63 places to 56th)
  2. University of Glasgow (up 47 places to 77th)
  3. University of Cumbria (up 45 places to 81st)
  4. University of Leeds (up 43 places to 58th)
  5. University of Reading (up 42 places to 17th)

Nottingham Trent tops People and Planet Green League 2011

Nottingham Trent University topped the 2011 People and Planet Green League. It assessed the environmental and ethical performance of 142 universities in the UK. 

Gloucestershire, Worcester and Plymouth secured the next three places with Bournemouth and Greenwich tied at the fifth place. Last year, Bournemouth and Greenwich were 20th and 61st, respectively.
