The conference will bring together delegates from all areas of further and higher education sector, ranging from those responsible for environmental management, estates and facilities, finance and procurement to curriculum leaders and students.
This three-day event will comprise plenary sessions, interactive workshops, facilitated networking events, en exhibition, AGM and a Gala Dinner.
One of the three key plenary sessions will be delivered by Professor Damian Hughes (Professor of Organisational Psychology and Change for Manchester Metropolitan University), an author who manages his own change management consultancy, LiquidThinker Ltd.
A keynote panel session, titled ‘Another Green Revolution? Who now has the sustainability mandate at your university or college?’ will facilitate a dialogue between a panel and conference delegates. Chaired by Iain Patton (EAUC CEO), the panel will comprise Ann Finlayson (Sustainability and Environmental Education SEEd), Andrew Darnton (Adranda), Sara Parkin (Forum for the Future), Felix Spira (Rootability), Dom Anderson (National Union of Students NUS) and Steve Egan (Deputy Chief Executive, Higher Education Funding Council for England HEFCE).
The three days will feature around 25 conference sessions under four streams falling in line with the LiFE (Learning in Future Environments) Index priority areas:
- Estates and Operations: Biodiversity, sustainable ICT, utilities, travel, transport, construction and renovation, resource efficiency and waste.
- Leadership and Governance: Leadership, staff engagement and human resources
- Learning, Teaching and Research: Learning, teaching, student engagement and research, (both sustainable research and research into sustainability)
- Partnership and Engagement: Business and industry interface, community and public engagement, and procurement and suppliers
Among the resource persons of these sessions are Jane Davidson (Director of Institute for Sustainable Practice, Innovation and Resource Effectiveness, INSPIRE, University of Wales Trinity St David), Professor Stephen Sterling (Professor of Sustainability Education, Plymouth University), Dr. Louise Ellis (Head of Sustainability, University of Leeds), David Somervell (Head of Social Responsibility and Sustainability SRS Futures, University of Edinburgh), John Hindley (Head of Environmental Strategy, Manchester Metropolitan University), Martin Wiles (Head of Sustainability, University of Bristol), Andrew Smith (Head of Estates and Sustainable Development, HEFCE), Chris Willmore (Academic Director, University of Bristol), Doug Parkin (Programme Director, Leadership Foundation for Higher Education), Katy Boom (Director of Environmental Sustainability, University of Worcester), Dr Emma Fieldhouse (Environmental Manager, University of Leicester), Dr. Richard Bull (Senior Researcher, De Montfort University DMU), Jamie Agombar (Ethical and Environmental Manager, NUS), Hannah Smith (Green League Manager, People and Planet), Andrea Gewessler (Director, Change that Matters) and Kirsti Norris (Sustainability Trainer, Facilitator and Consultant, Action for Sustainability Ltd). Most of the case studies featured in these conference sessions are either winners or highly recommended entries in the Green Gown Awards.
The conference programme will also feature health and wellbeing, incorporating nutrition, occupational health, activity and fitness; a student day; and exchange sessions, i.e. mini conference sessions taking place within the exhibition hall during refreshment and lunch breaks.
Two extra sessions will be open for EAUC Members only and the AGM will be open to all delegates although only Members will have voting rights.
Delegate registration will close on 23 April 2014.
