UEL hosts London RCE partners’ meeting (Feb 2012)

The University of East London (UEL) hosted a meeting of the partners of the London Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) on 24 February 2012.

Coordinated by London South Bank University (LSBU) and supported by other London universities including UEL, Kingston and Queen Mary University of London, the London RCE is a diverse network of individuals and organisations from education, state, business and voluntary sector committed to Education for Sustainable Development in their respective areas. It is part of the 100-member Global RCE Network being developed by United Nations University.

The next partners meeting will be hosted by Kingston University in June 2012.

University of Wales TSD launches INSPIRE

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has launched INSPIRE (Institute for Sustainable Practice, Innovation and Resource Effectiveness) as part of its ‘fit for future’ framework which embeds Sustainable Development through the learning, teaching, curricula, campus, community and culture of Trinity Saint David. The institute is led by Jane Davidson, former Minister for Environment and Sustainability in the Welsh Government.

UEL Sustainability seminar series

The University of East London (UEL) will launch a sustainability seminar series on 23 February 2012. Richard Lindsay, Head of the Environmental Research Group UEL and Visiting Professor, University of Tokyo, will present the first talk, The Urban Jungle: Why we need urban greenspace.

Higher Education’s Commitment to Sustainability: a UN global report

Higher Education’s Commitment to Sustainability: From Understanding to Action, a UN-commissioned global report on Higher Education for Sustainability, was released recently. The report, fourth in a series published by the Global Universities Network for Innovation (GUNI) in collaboration with the United Nations University, includes papers by 85 authors from 38 countries.

Professor Daniella Tilbury of the University of Gloucestershire has authored the initial chapter, Higher Education for Sustainability: A Global Overview of Commitment and Progress.
